Job Description: Homeownership Counselor

Location: Denver, Colorado

Position Summary

Assist potential homebuyers to develop competence and responsibility in meeting their financial and housing needs.

Working Hours: Full time, flexible hours

Responsibilities

This position requires a highly dependable, detail oriented professional. He/She will report to the Executive Director and will work with other staff at Del Norte. Homeownership counseling services include, but are not limited to: pre-purchase one-on-one counseling, second mortgages (Del Norte DPA program), homebuyer education workshops, financial education, rental counseling and reverse mortgage.

The Housing Counselor:

· Provides one-on-one counseling to first time homebuyers using approved HUD/CHFA curriculum.

· Works with families with a wide range of education/income levels and cultural backgrounds.

· Analyzes family financial position, requiring math skills.

· Evaluates program eligibility regarding buyer qualification for assistance.

· Reports outcomes and data as required by various stakeholders & funders.

· Works with Executive Director to develop and market programs.

· Must understand real estate, financial, and tenant landlord frameworks.

· Maintains client’s file on computer base management system and paper file.

· Must be self-motivated and willing to learn and keep up to date with housing related programs and guidelines.

· Develops program guidelines, goals, outcomes and implementation strategies.

· Must be able to travel locally and nationally for training.

· Interacts with various colleague professional groups and collaborating agencies and partners.

· Will engage and interact at various housing events.

Skills and Qualifications:

· Housing Counseling Certification

· Reverse Mortgage (HECM) Certification

· Bilingual

· Proficient with Microsoft Office programs

· Professional appearance

· Professional communication skills both written and verbal

· Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise

· Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
